Spirit Airlines: More than 200 pilots placed on furlough

To emerge from the financial crisis it has been suffering for several months, Spirit Airlines, a specialist in ultra low cost flights in the United States has been forced to impose leave on several of its pilots.

To compensate for the drop in revenues, it is necessary “to adjust the number of staff in relation to the workload until profitability is restored.” announced the low cost airline in a press release.

The furlough will begin in November and 270 pilots are expected to be placed on unpaid leave, while 140 pilots will be demoted indefinitely, giving them time to get things back on track and return to profitability.
