JetBlue checked baggage: Complete guide

With JetBlue, a carry-on bag and a personal item are included in all fares. The cost of a checked bag depends on four factors: the fare purchased, your status or card membership, the destination, and the time of travel.

Flights to the United States, Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean

The prices listed below are based on the official rate schedule:

Who is eligible for free baggage on JetBlue?

Mosaic status and the JetBlue card also extend benefits to travel companions: all travelers on the same reservation for Mosaic members, and up to three companions for cardholders. The free first bag benefit for cardholders applies only to flights operated by JetBlue, not to codeshare flights or those operated by partner airlines.

A free first bag is also included, regardless of the fare, on flights to or from Cartagena, Guayaquil, Medellín, Port-au-Prince, Georgetown, Barranquilla, and Cali.

Weight, size, and surcharge fees

Standard luggage must not exceed 50 pounds (approximately 23 kg). For bags weighing between 51 and 99 pounds, the surcharge is $150 per bag; bags exceeding 99 pounds will not be accepted. Oversized luggage (measuring 63 to 80 inches) also incurs a $150 fee.

Golf clubs, skis, snowboards, and fishing rods count as standard luggage. They do not incur any surcharge, provided they remain within weight limits.

For carry-on items, luggage must not exceed 22 x 14 x 9 inches (56 x 36 x 23 cm), and personal items must not exceed 17 x 13 x 8 inches (43 x 33 x 20 cm).

How to save on baggage fees :

– Add your bags when booking, or no later than 24 hours before departure. This allows you to save up to $10 per bag on the first two.

– Compare with a Mint fare if you are traveling with two suitcases.

– Pay with your TrueBlue points; this is possible before check-in.

– Check if your card or status applies before paying.

– Baggage fees are refundable only if the booking is cancelled before departure. A bag that has been paid for but not checked in is non-refundable.
