Jetblue Unaccompanied Minors Policy: Complete guide

Traveling with children on JetBlue Airways is easy, but if you want to send your child alone on a flight with this airline, you need to be well informed about its policy regarding minors.

What is Jetblue unaccompanied minor policy?

Each airline has its own policy regarding unaccompanied minors. Per Jetblue policy, UMNR service is mandatory for children ages 5-14 traveling on any JetBlue Airways itinerary.

What fees does Jetblue charge for the unaccompanied minor service?

Jetblue’s UMNR service costs $150, in addition to the cost of booking their airfare.

For children over 14 years old on the day of the flight, their parents can also book this service (not mandatory in this case) to provide them with additional assistance during the flight.

How to book a Unaccompanied Minor Jetblue service

Like any airline ticket booking operation carried out by an adult, you can book a Jetblue flight for your child. However, since he will be traveling alone on this airline, you must add the UMNR service to his reservation.

Start by searching for the perfect flight for your child by filtering online flight deals on the Jetblue Airways website or mobile app.

Once you have chosen the offer, proceed to reserve the ticket. And after confirmation and payment, download your child’s e-ticket, then continue the procedure to add the UMNR service to the flight booking. To do this, you will need to fill out a special form and attach it to the booked plane ticket before sending it to Jetblue customer service.

Other documents required for passengers traveling with Jetblue’s UMNR service

On the day of departure, the minor’s parent must submit certain documents to the JetBlue Airways agent at the check-in counter:

– Photo ID of the person dropping the child off at the airport or the person picking them up upon arrival.

– Of course, the person picking up the child upon arrival at their destination must be at least 18 years old.

– Three copies of the completed and signed UMNR form from the child’s guardian

– The unaccompanied minor service reservation must include the passenger’s and their parent’s contact information: Full Name, Home Address, Email Address, and Telephone Number.

JetBlue Airways requests that parents remain with their child and not leave the boarding area until the aircraft has departed.

On the day of departure: The guardian and their child must go to the JetBlue check-in counter at the airport, bringing all the necessary documents, including the UMNR form, to complete the check-in process and collect the child’s boarding pass.

– For domestic flights operated by JetBlue, the check-in deadline is 45 minutes before departure.

– For international flights, check-in counters close 60 minutes before departure.

Exceptionally, the check-in window on Jetblue flights operating from Dublin Airport in Ireland closes 80 minutes before departure.

Upon check-in, a JetBlue Airways flight attendant will take charge of the child, accompanying them through security and boarding, and will remain with them throughout the flight. The flight attendant will not leave their side until the child is handed over to the designated person upon arrival at the destination.

Child traveling with another passenger on JetBlue: Mandatory unaccompanied minor service?

As an exception, any minor aged 2 to 13 can travel with JetBlue without the Unaccompanied Minor service, provided they book a single ticket. Otherwise, if the accompanying passenger has already made a reservation, they must contact the airline’s customer service and provide their booking reference (consisting of 6 letters) to add it to the minor’s booking.

Seats reserved for unaccompanied minors travelling on JetBlue

For safety reasons, JetBlue places unaccompanied minors in seats located at the rear of the aircraft. Therefore, these passengers cannot reserve Mint or EvenMore seats, or seats offering more legroom, which are generally located at the front of the aircraft.

Free baggage allowance for unaccompanied minors on Jetblue Airways flights

Since they travel with a full-fare ticket, minors traveling alone on JetBlue benefit from the same baggage allowance as adult passengers, which may vary depending on the fare booked.
