Hawaiian Airlines unveils “Leihōkū,” its new premium cabin

Hawaiian Airlines has revealed the name of its upcoming high-end suite: Leihōkū, which means “lei of stars.” The choice of this name reflects the airline’s ambition: to make the journey itself a taste of the islands, long before arrival.

Starting in 2028, twenty-two upgraded suites will be available in international business class and domestic First Class on Hawaiian Airlines flights. They will be installed on Airbus A330 aircraft, primarily serving routes to Asia, Oceania, and select North American destinations. The suites will be complemented by dedicated check-in services and island-inspired cuisine.

Refurbishing the entire A330 Fleet

The project extends beyond the front of the aircraft. All 24 of the Hawaiian carrier’s A330s will receive new cabin interiors – from the first row to the last – starting in 2028. Main Cabin passengers will benefit from these upgrades as well.

An enhanced stopover in Honolulu

The experience begins on the ground. A Leihōkū check-in counter will open in Honolulu next year. In early 2028, a lounge spanning approximately 1200 square meters – with a capacity for 200 travelers – will open at the entrance to the Mauka Concourse in Terminal 1.

Hawaiian to Launch “Premium Reserve”

Hawaiian is introducing a brand-new cabin class positioned between the suites and Premium class. Premium Reserve is designed as a world class premium economy offering, aimed at travelers seeking greater comfort on long-haul flights – without the price tag of a suite – featuring 38 inches of legroom, leg and calf rests, and 16-inch 4K screens. It will be available on 787s, A330s, and select 737 MAX 10s starting in 2028, with sales set to begin next summer.

A partnership with Alaska Airlines

Leihōkū represents only half of the announcement. For Alaska Airlines (a partner of Hawaiian Airlines), the equivalent product is named Aurora. Its suites, featuring sliding doors, will be installed on Boeing 787s starting in 2028. Both brands share the same underlying concept: a recognizable premium product, each with its own local flair.
