Spirit Airlines allows passengers to choose their seat during online check-in, free of charge for standard seats and as a paid option for seats at the front or with extra legroom.
This service remains free for Free Spirit Elite members and passengers booking their flights with the Premium Economy and Spirit First fare.
Passengers can add a seat before or after booking their flight.
This service can be useful for those who want to enjoy the captivating aerial view during their flight, or for those who want more comfort by booking seats with extra legroom.
The service is also recommended for families, as Spirit assigns them seats randomly, meaning they may not be seated next to their companions.
How to select your seat on Spirit Airlines?
There is only one way to choose a seat with this airline before going to the airport and avoid paying for this service:
– Access your booking through your My Trip account on Spirit.com or in the airline’s mobile app.
– Click on “Add or change seats” and follow the on-screen instructions.
On the cabin layout, you can see which seats are still available (they are usually highlighted in yellow).
In the last 24 hours before the flight, you must add your seat from the online check-in section (the service remains accessible until 90 minutes before departure).
Please note that the seats at the front and Premium seats are reserved for passengers who have chosen the Spirit First and Premium Economy fares, respectively. Therefore, this service is only charged for bookings made with the Value fare.
Spirit Airlines seat selection fees
Passengers wishing to add a new seat to their Spirit flight reservation must pay the following fees:
Big Front: . They are located in the first few rows of the aircraft and are wider and more spacious than other seats in the cabin.
Other seats (Premium), also located further forward and near the emergency exits, are offered at prices ranging from $50 to $64.
Choose your seat after booking your Spirit Airlines flight
Spirit Airlines allows you to choose a seat even after your flight booking has been confirmed. The service remains open until boarding, but seat availability is not guaranteed.
What seat can I choose on my next flight with Spirit Airlines?
After choosing their flights, some passengers start to worry about where they’ll sit during the flight. They might be hoping for a wide seat, one that provides easy access to the aisles and, of course, the restrooms, a seat far from the engine noise, or one that offers more legroom. Some also want to admire the most beautiful landscapes from the sky while sitting in a window seat. Indeed, everyone has their preferences, and finding an available seat that meets our needs can be tricky.
Big Front Seat
Big Front seats are allocated as a priority, at no extra charge, to passengers who have booked their ticket with the First fare. They are located in the first few rows of the aircraft.
Booking a Big Front seat also grants access to other convenient services on the ground and in the air, such as priority check-in and boarding (in Group 1), enhanced baggage allowance, snacks and drinks, and free Wi-Fi access during the flight.
Each of Spirit’s aircraft features Big Front seats, namely the Airbus A320s, A321 CEO, and A321 NEO.
There are 8 seats in total on each aircraft, and here are their specifications:
| Aircraft model | Pitch – Row 1 | Pitch – Row 2 | Seat Width |
| A320 | 22” (56 cm) | 34” (86 cm) | 22.8” (58 cm) |
| A321 | 22” (56 cm) | 34” (86 cm) | 22” |

Premium Seats
These belong to Premium Economy, located at the front of the aircraft. They are therefore generally more expensive than standard seats.
These seats are particularly recommended for taller passengers or those who like to stretch their legs. They offer up to 10 cm of extra legroom. These seats are especially convenient on long-haul flights.
Exit Row
Seating near the emergency exits generally allows for a quicker exit in case of an emergency, but that’s not all. Exit Row seats are also popular for the extra legroom they offer (25 cm).
Standard Seats
These are the seats assigned by default when booking your flight with Spirit.
