A few weeks ago, Southwest Airlines announced that it had changed its seat allocation policy, which was previously based on a “first come, first served” basis. Since then, the American low-cost airline has introduced a seat selection service, allowing passengers to choose their preferred seats at check-in for a fee.
Premium seats available on all Southwest Airlines flights

Indeed, seat selection wasn’t the only option introduced by Southwest Airlines. The low-cost airline has decided to equip the cabins of its Boeing 737s with more spacious seats.
In its press release, the American carrier announced that this service is aimed at improving the travel experience for its customers, emphasizing that it should take effect in January 2026.
“We are committed to offering our completely redesigned Boeing 737s and the new Premium Class to as many passengers as possible.”

Indeed, the new service announced by the low cost airline is chargeable, but since it won’t officially launch until next year, passengers will be able to take advantage of it by reserving premium seats free of charge, always respecting the “first come, first served” rule.
