United Airlines: Flight between Osaka and Cebu diverted after fire alarm

A United Airlines Boeing 737, operating between Tokyo-Narita in Japan and Cebu in the Philippines, diverted for an emergency landing at Kansai airport due to a fire alarm in its cargo compartment.

The United Airlines Boeing 737-800 departed today from the Japanese airport with 142 passengers on board and bound for Cebu. It was en route over the Pacific Ocean when a fire alarm sounded. The pilot decided to divert to the departure airport for an emergency landing at around 7:30 p.m. (local time).

According to Reuters.com, the U.S. airline confirmed the incident, stating that “after verification, the alarm activation was found to be unintentional.”

“There was no smoke, no sudden loss of altitude, or panic, although some passengers may have been surprised to learn that the aircraft had diverted.”

“The passengers were evacuated via emergency slides, two of whom sustained injuries and were quickly taken to hospital.” The same source indicated.
