Southwest Airlines announces Las Vegas-Honolulu overnight flight

Southwest Airlines is about to launch a new route from Las Vegas to Honolulu. Dubbed “reverse red-eye” by the airline itself, this overnight flight, scheduled to begin operations on March 12, 2027, will operate four times a week.

A typical overnight flight usually connects the West Coast of the United States to the East Coast: the plane takes off late at night and, thanks to the time difference, lands early the following morning (local time). Here, it’s the opposite. By flying from Las Vegas to Hawaii, the aircraft travels back in time through several time zones instead of forward. The result: a flight that lasts more than six hours but, on the clock, appears to advance by only three hours and twenty-five minutes, as Hawaii does not observe daylight saving time and is three hours behind the West Coast.

This type of flight remains rare in the United States. Southwest is following the example of Hawaiian Airlines, which already operates a comparable overnight flight on this route.

Las Vegas – Honolulu flight schedule

The Southwest Airlines flight will depart from Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas (LAS) at 2:45 a.m. (local time), landing at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu (HNL) at 6:10 a.m. (Hawaii time). The advertised block time is 6 hours and 25 minutes.

As for the aircraft used on the new overnight route, as with its entire network, Southwest will operate this service with a Boeing 737, most likely a 737 MAX 8, an aircraft the airline is increasingly deploying on its routes to Hawaii.

Southwest does not offer business class or multi-cabin configurations: all its aircraft fly in a single, entirely economy cabin, with unassigned seats, a feature of the airline’s original business model (although seat assignments are being rolled out across the network). A Southwest-configured 737 MAX 8 typically has around 175 seats, with no dedicated seating areas or differentiated cabin services.

Is the Las Vegas to Honolulu flight already open for booking?

Yes. Southwest put tickets on sale as soon as its launch was announced on July 16. Go to www.southwest.com or open the app.

What price range can I expect?

At Southwest, airfares vary depending on demand, the booking period and the fare type selected, according to the dynamic pricing model applied across its entire network. The airline typically offers four fare categories, which do not change the physical cabin but affect flexibility, boarding priority, and frequent flyer points.

For the Las Vegas to Honolulu flight, fares range from $303 to $543, as follows:

Basic: $303–$343
Choice: $353–$388
Choice Preferred: $438–$473
Choice Extra: $508–$543.
