An aviation enthusiast since childhood, I follow the evolution of air transport worldwide with great interest. Through Uspassengers.com, I focus on analyzing the latest news from American airlines and all carriers operating to and from the United States: new routes, fleet renewals, inter-company agreements, airport developments, and more.
Hurricanes fans won’t have to settle for television this fall. American Airlines has added direct flights from Miami for two Hurricanes trips this fall: Clemson, South Carolina, and South Bend, Indiana.
American Airlines is introducing its largest college football flight schedule this season, with nearly 70 flights added to transport approximately 14,000 fans. When departing from Miami International Airport (MIA), two journeys are concerned:
The first flight serves Clemson, South Carolina, via Greenville-Spartanburg Airport (GSP), for the October 3 game. The second serves South Bend, Indiana, via South Bend Airport (SBN), for the November 7 meet. The second trip takes you to the Notre Dame campus.
Flight schedules
Additional flights are scheduled the day before and the day after each match. Concretely, this gives:
Clemson (match on October 3): departure from Miami on October 2, return from Greenville-Spartanburg on October 4.
South Bend (game November 7): departure from Miami on November 6, return from South Bend on November 8.
The drive to Greenville-Spartanburg is short. On the regular route to Miami, flight time varies between 1 hour 51 minutes and 2 hours 06 minutes. Fans can therefore leave on Friday and be back in Miami on Sunday.
Flight prices
American has not published a price list for these special flights. Prices vary depending on the date, the load and the class chosen (Main Cabin, Main Cabin Extra or First, depending on the aircraft). High prices are to be expected as demand spikes around big matches. For the national finals in January, direct flights to Miami were priced around $1,000, with a few cheaper options with a stopover. Fans who want to keep the bill low should book early.

What is the baggage allowance allowed to passengers on American Airlines domestic flights?
One carry-on bag and one personal item are included on all American Airlines fares. On the other hand, checked baggage is chargeable for most travelers. It’s free for AAdvantage members with status and for most AAdvantage credit card holders.
With the Citi/AAdvantage Platinum Select card, the first bag is free for the cardholder and up to four companions on the same reservation. Passengers in a superior cabin are also entitled to free bags, up to two in domestic First. Other travelers pay $50 for the first bag at the airport, or $45 if they prepay online.
