Tsunami alert: Alaska Airlines changes its flight schedule to Hawaii

The repercussions of the earthquake off the Russian Kamchatka Peninsula are being felt across the Pacific.

While the waves appear minor, countries have still preferred to take precautions. In Hawaii, where civil defense officials ordered coastal evacuations, airports have been closed.

In turn, Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines have decided to suspend all flights scheduled this week to and from Hawaii.

Four destinations are currently affected by the cancellations: Oahu, Kona, Kauai, and Maui.

Passengers with valid reservations for the canceled flights have the option of changing their departure date or canceling their reservation and requesting a refund.

Large waves of up to two meters are expected off the coast of Hawaii. As a result, Hawaii Governor Josh Green signed an emergency proclamation activating local and state emergency operations centers.
